One is the mineral tank, the second one is the brine tank, and the third main component is the control valve. Mineral/Resin Tank is where the hard water becomes soft. It contains plastic beads or resin beads made up of polystyrene.
The resin beads inside the softener tank have a different or opposite electrical charge than the dissolved particles of the incoming water.
